Hourican and Duignan Connections – Spectres in the Mists of Records

19th October 2017 by Thomas Carty

My great grandmother was Margaret Hourican who married John Carty – known to us as “The Man With The Beard” due to his picture in a photo take by Sean Mac Eoin.

Her sister Catherine married a Thomas Duignan, and its his connection to the Duignans of Ballinamuck – Legga – Mohill that I am trying to work out.

The family in Edenmore featured the colourful Chicago May, whose sister Lizzie married a Hourican. Incidentally, this was the girl who was born the night Mai legged it for Liverpool, then America, and into the realms of infamy!

Resources –

There is a family tree on TribalPages ran by Fiona Duignan that features the branches stretching out, and its linking these to the one root that is challenging all of us!
