Hourican, sometimes known as Somers is a Longford name that shows up in Limerick too.  Our family is of the Dunbeggan branch, who married into the Corcoran family.

Due to the politics of the time, Irish had to change their name and their religion often, and the name Somers / Summers was often used as a direct translation of Hourican which means “of a sunny disposition” in Irish.
