The Three Houses Field and the Brothers from Kildare

30th August 2017 by Thomas Carty

Dad used to tell a story of three brothers “who came from Kildare” and settled in Aughagreagh in a field he called the “Three Houses Field” as there was the tracks of three houses foundations still there visible in his time, before he sold the family farm in the 1970’s.

The story went that two of them did not have children, and the other did, and merged the three family farms.

The truth of this I do not know, but in the tithes I did find records of three brothers paying tithes (yes I know, not rebels like me and the water charges!!!) on a plot in Longford .

So why did they come from Kildare? There were Cartys (Daniel Carty married a Sarah Young in the 1790’s and their family can be seen online on varius sites) but whether they are our family or not I do not know.
